Starting School Books

Starting School Books - blog post image

It's coming up to that time of year again and I've been looking at books about starting secondary school. There are lots of picture books for kids joining nursery or reception, but fewer about going up to Year Seven. Here is my initial list but it's a work in progress so please get in touch with any more to add ideas.

You can find those marked with an asterix on The Bookshelf

Just Jack (Kate Scott)*

Jack Dash and the Summer Blizzard (Sophie Plowden)*

The Curse of the Nomed (B B Taylor)*

The Awkward Autumn of Lily MacClean (Lindsay Littleson)*

The Naughtiest Girl in the School (Enid Blyton)

Horrid Henry's Stinkbomb (Francesca Simon)

Harry Potter and the Philospher's Stone (J K Rowling)

The Worst Witch (Jill Murphy)

Night School (C J Daugherty)

I talked about this on BBC Radio Berkshire last week - here is the link if you're interested https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p06gt01h (The Book Club starts at 1-06-15)  This link will expire in 25 days.

Rosie Loves Jack

Rosie loves Jack. Jack loves Rosie. So when they're split up, Rosie will do anything to find the boy who makes the sun shine in her head. Even run away from home.

Teachers - have you discovered @BookPenPals? A new initiative pairing authors & illustrators with schools to make reading recommendations via postcards. They're pretty oversubscribed, but if you're interested it might be worth getting your name on the waiting list. They have some fabulous authors on board.
